30.10.01: Le Libre Échange, avenue de Clichy / rue de Brochant
It's always a victory to be able to chalk up another arrondissement in the annals, especially one with relatively little draw to it. Fact is, though, riding out to Clichy -- by bike or by métro -- took me right along the eastern edge of the 17e, so it was only a matter of time. I had barely spent any time in the 17e, but it got on the board after a slightly stressful first sesssion of Judeo-Arabic. In fact, a stone's throw away from the café was another of those unsung gems sprinkled around town, the surprisingly lovely Cité des Fleurs -- little more than a florid back alley, really, but given that it was set amidst general drabness and that it seemed to linger on much longer than it should, I was pleased.
