17.10.01: Le Bac, boulevard St. Michel / rue Henri Barbusse
Although Nathalie and I hadn't hung out much while I was living in the 14e, one Sunday in September I did bump into her and Thomas, whom I hadn't yet met, literally as I stepped out the door of my building. While Josh and Leah were around she also managed to call everytime we were due over at the Benhaims' for one or another festive meal. But she was persistent, and by the time I'd stranded myself in the country we were hanging out fairly consistently. She's the one who clued me in to how the Mairie de Paris had all sorts of tickets to plays and shows at next to nothing for the under-26 crowd. And of all things, it was a Yiddish musical revue at the Théatre St. Germain that piqued her interest. Unfortunately we showed up far too early at the kiosque in the 5e, so with a couple of hours to kill and a deck of card in my bag, we sat down at this very empty café and I taught her the joys of gin-rummy. Oddly enough, this was one of the few times at a café that we had overstayed the welcome, when they started putting out the table setting for the lunch crowd.
