10.01.01: Café Universel, rue St. Jacques
And so Tanya comes to Paris for a week. Her arrival was fairly funny, since it involved trekking out to Créteil where I had my early Wednesday classes to teach, and attempting to stay awake long enough to leave with me at the end of the day. No can do, so I give her the key and send her back to my apartment. I'm not sure we went out that very first night, what with jetlag and all, but certainly by the second night we check out this jazzy place just south of the more annoying sections of the cinquième, and not too far from my place. The jazz is free, the drinks are slightly more expensive than normal, but the atmosphere works - a genuine recommendation, since it was one of Sue's CAPES students who had mentioned the place. I believe I'd return at least a couple of times.
