13.03.01: Chez Prune, Quai de Valmy / rue Beaurepaire
I suppose it's a little much to wander this far from home, and expect it to be sunny in March in Paris. This was a double-Joe recommendation: not only does he mention it in the guide as a fine place to stop on the Canal St. Martin, but I'd just picked up the Time Out Book of Paris Walks, so the funky tables on the corner and super-cheap crème made for a fine hour of blustery quasi-reading -- not to mention regret that I hadn't been coming here more regularly on the way to Yiddish. Later, on the way home to a festival of shorts at my favourite cinema, Le Denfert, amidst the very blue décor here I manage to actially get some substantive reading done. Plus, coming along the line 6 métro, there's really no reason to transfer at Denfert to go one stop more along line 4 to Mouton-Duvernet. But if you change one stop earlier at Raspail...
