24.11.01: Café de l'Europe, rue St. Maur / Passage Hébrard
Probably the first time Brian and I got together for no specific reason other than for a drink at some new-to-us-both bar. His TimeOut guide had praised this one for its "gritty, Tribeca feel" or thereabouts, but apart from a couple of gritty-looking women in the opposite corner, there wasn't much of any feel going on. Maybe just an off-night. Neither of us knew much else in the area, though, so in a variation on what would emerge as our regular pattern, we headed for a more reliable Irish pint, in this case at what had become my local thanks to Nathalie and Thomas' enthusiasm for it, the Wild Geese.
