11.10.01: Au Drapeau Français, boulevard Voltaire / boulevard Richard-Lenoir
For the last six months that I lived in Paris, the intersection at the corner was undergoing some, shall we say, remodelling, hence the obstructed view of the lovely mauve-tinged café there (it's right behind the back-hoe, I swear). It was still a day or two before the "War on Terror" would kick into high gear in Afghanistan, but true to form the Parisians were already out marching againt military action -- which is how I learned that my street was a major artery for most major demonstrations. I stood on the opposite side of the street for about 15 minutes waiting for a breach just to get to the other side. I did come back down to watch from the sidelines at the café, but by then the crowd was petering out.
