07.06.02: La Grosse Bouteille, boulevard Richard-Lenoir / rue Moufle
How is it that a café so small and skanky could have one of the more distinctive (if a bit clumsy) gimmicks in town? The chairs and tables at this place reminded me of the basement reception hall in a synagoguge, but the huge bottle on the roof announced this café as, well, having space on its roof for a huge bottle. I'd passed it a million times riding home on the bikepath, so it finally took an afternoon of laundry for me to stop in, newspaper in hand.
