13.05.01: La Chope Daguerre, rue Daguerre
Now that I'm set to move out of the 14e in a couple of months, I have to get in as much appreciation of the local scene as I can. Well, the lack of a "scene" is probably one of things that makes moving to the 11e a neat prospect, but the rue Daguerre remains a good haunt. This is far and away its best café terrasse (love those dark, round, wooden tables and patio-esque chairs), which is why it's usually fully packed. So I set myself at one of the seats in the nonexistant window to kill an hour or so before meeting Pollie to see the "movie of the year" -- a full year before it became as much in the US -- Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulin (full title, thank you). The early show was sold out, meaning there was yet more time to kill, so we grabbed a drink at a place I'd though about going into a couple of times now. Pollie, however, wound up taking to it a bit too much for me to stay excited about it, although I did make it back there with whole the Créteil once or twice (at Pollie's suggestion). It's certainly the most branchéd (in a good way, if possible) place on the innocently seedy strip of erotica on rue de la Gaité.
