10.10.01: Le Refuge, rue Lamarck / rue de la Fontaine du But
The immediate task was to head out to Clichy to figure out my schedule of classes from the bizarre code of pages posted on the walls; at least now I understood why my students at Créteil could barely sort of their own schedules. Biking out there wasn't quite like the ugly riverside route to get to Créteil, but passing through the périphérique zone is never a joy. Given the vagaries of Paris street directions, my ride home would always be more variable and complicated than the fairly straighforward Grands-Boulvards-up-to-Place-de-Clichy-toward- the-Porte-de-Clichy (believe me, that is straightforward) outbound route. On the way back this time, I rode right through the lee slopes of Montmartre, which not only allowed me to avoid the Sacre Coeur's tyrannical sphere of influence, but to sit down for a coffee bathed in sunshine and staircases.
