And so the Paris Bikechain Massacre comes to an end. The mechanic at the shop had already replaced the chainrings, but his best solution now was credit toward a replacement (I'd have appreciated a rebate of some kind for my troubles, but alas). Since I'd have to move up a bit in price range, the stalwart hollondais models became more appealing. But I still wanted something capable of a longer trip outside the city, and the one dropped-bar model just didn't feel solid enough to make the hybrid's grip-shifters a deal-breaker. In fact we wound up very happy together. It was officially initiated by being locked up around the block from the sun-drenched terrasse of a café that would probably have been much less appealing later in the day, just up the Rue Mouffetard. Then, the first real ride across town, to meet the parents and the Archibalds for lunch...
