23.09.00: Ma Bourgogne, Place des Vosges / rue des Francs Bourgeois
It's the first weekend in the city, but with no friends other than my host, who often marches to his own personal drum, I am sent out for the afternoon. Serge does supply me with a recommended stop, however, this imposingly impressive café at the edge of the similarly-imposing Place des Vosges. Both offer a good mixture of the beautiful people, the eminently local, and the blatantly touristic, with the terrasse seating under the columns providing a sheltered but well-placed view of it all. I also break the mold early on by taking not a coffee, but a demi, learning right away that even the classiest of cafés can offer up an unclassy beer.
