30.01.01: L'Ile de France, Quai de Montebello / rue des Bernardins
Just to the east of the whole Notre-Dame sphere of influence, there's a strangely calm and canopied stretch of bouqinistes and bikepath along the edge of the Left Bank. It was the perfect palce to head after running around for an Italian phrasebook, with the trip to Italy still potentially imminent - within the hour, in fact. Normally this place has a great terrasse: shaded, north-facing, and perfectly rectangular. But with the January bluster I holed up in the yellow glow of its medieval-y interior. In reality I suppose I wasn't happy with my Italian itinerary, so I stayed put and let the train decide to leave without me.
